Here are the steps that worked for me to edit youtube videos:
(Assuming all the copyright stuff is in order...)
- Download the .flv video with DVDVideoSoft's Free Studio Manager (Free YouTube Download)
- Convert it from .flv to .avi (DivX encoding) with Moyea's FLV to Video Converter Pro 2 (this was the tricky step)
- Edit the .avi in VirtualDub (change the audio, for instance)
- Upload to YouTube
