Academia

"Technological innovation accounts for more than half of economic growth in OECD countries.
[...] Although Canada ranks high against its competitor nations when it comes to funding university research in its beginning stages, 'it is far from clear whether these investments in academic research are bearing fruit in terms of improved business performance and productivity'"
- Joanne Laucius, The Ottawa Citizen, 24/Nov/2008

All too often research in universities go on to solve artificial problems. All too often these problems maintain an egocentric elite of researches and professors inside the universities. Turning knowledge into business, or more specifically, turning good ideas into fruition in society is the opposite of academic research in my experience.
